George Phillips, an elderly man, from Meridian, Mississippi, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me. Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available." George said, "Okay." He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again. " Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." and he hung up. Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!" (True Story) I LOVE IT! Don't mess with old gardeners! Live well, laugh often, love much!!!

Hey everybody - this is a "garden giggle" of sorts that came to mind today, and I thought I'd share it. It did get a standing ovation when I told it at a district garden club meeting. I certainly hope no one is offended, but if you decide to kick me off - it's been nice knowing all y'all. Anyway, here goes: A teenage girl was staying at her grandmother's. One day her boyfriend came to pick her up for a date. When her granddaughter came downstairs, grandma was horrified to see that the girl was not only wearing a very sheer top and was, shall we say, without encumbrance. Grandma remonstrated vigorously, but to no avail. As she sailed out the door, the girl tossed over her shoulder, "Lighten up, Gran - sometimes you gotta show off your rosebuds!" The next day, the girl was having a crowd of friends over for a party. As she came into the living room, she saw her grandmother sitting by the front window, topless! Well, the girl went ballistic, lecturing and pleading with her grandmother about the impropriety of it all. Grandma simply smiled and said, "Honey, if you can show off your rosebuds, I can display my hanging baskets!"

This is an oldie, but I still get a chuckle out of it: Did you hear about the elderly man who streaked the garden show? He got the prize for best dried arrangement.
